Episode 2:  A New Magician

The town of Doublin hadn't changed much over the years... It was still a few quiet, rolling green hills with huts and buildings scattered hear and there... The only thing that had changed with the many rumors surrounding the house on the hill on the outskirts of town, which Arthur now approached... The place was spooky, to say the least, and had its share of dangers, like seemingly open graves and the like...
Murkrow fluttered EVERYWHERE, as if this were a place they gathered every single day... And in truth, it was... As Arthur walked onto the grounds, the large iron gates swung shut behind him with a noisy clang, and the crows and ravens began to fluttered about him and circle, cawing softly...
He spins around to face the gates, startled for a moment.  Upon seeing there was no one there aside from the birds, he turns back to continue on his way toward the looming house, grumbling to himself.
A woman's scream came from the distance, high pitched and eerie, like a screech of pain, as a ragged shadow suddenly lept across the roof of the house and landed somewhere on the ground, where Arthur couldn't see it, save for its one glowering red eye, and its heavy breathing...
The haunted atmosphere was starting to get to him, making a touch more unsure in his stride.  But still he continues toward the front of the house...  He hadn't travelled all this way to be scared off by a shadow and som lousy crows.
"Whooooo dares follow the path of bones into a dead house...?" the shadow whispered, as it moved lithely closer, though because of the gloom it didn't become any clearer... The crows, those that saw fit to stop circling, began to flutter eagerly over towards the shadow, landing on or near it...
"I do." he answers, glaring at the shadow from the thin sliver of his face visible between his hat and the top of his scarf.  He certainly looked and sounded brave, unshaken by the shadow and milling crows, but the slow retreating steps he takes as the shadow slinks closer tell a different tale...
The shadow suddenly moved its thin hands, and a loud boom accompanied by a bright flash suddenly ensued... When Arthur threw up his hands to block the brightness, he felt a jab in his back, and an arm around his throat... "And who, pray tell, comes to a place where only ghosts reside...?"
"One who has business with their master." he returns, struggling against the shadow.  He brings his hands up to the arm around his throat, trying to pull it away.
To his suprise, the arm came away suprisingly easily, and he would feel it was thin and just slightly frail feeling. But it immidiatly went back around his neck as the voice hissed, "Buisness...? Then are you another traveller, hoping to beat my mother's Gym challenge?"
"Your mother..." he mutters, stopping his struggling in his surprise, "No.  I'm here to see the violet witch that lives here.  I want to learn from her."
The shadow held onto the man a few moments longer before she suddenly let go, moving around to face him head on and revealing herself completely to him... She wore formfitting, above knee boots and a miniskirt, a baggy long sleeve shirt, a wide brimmed witch's hat that covered most of her face, and a scarf that covered the other half of it... Her color scheme was a very very dark, almost black purple... "I see..." she said, twirling the sai  she held and putting it back on her belt... "My apologise then... I thought you were another Gym challenger, and I give them all the same treatment..."
He reaches up and sharply tugs his cloak back into position from where it had been thrown askew by the attack, "Isn't the point of a gym to have challengers...?" he asks, straightening his tilted top hat as well before standing up straight again.
The crossed her arms and cocked her head, "Well, yeah... But I don't exactly want them to feel welcome either. It unnerves them and makes them worse battlers..." she chuckled, "All part of mum's strategy of causing pain and befuddlement."
"Hmm...  Well, I'm no common challenger.  I am a magician, by trade." he grins, although no one could see the expression through his scarf, "And through my mastery of 'parlor tricks' I've gained a thirst for the real thing.  That.  Is why I'm here.  Do you have a 'welcome' for that, as well?" he asks, a slight bite to his tone but a playful one...
"Of course I do." she said, tilting her head up with a bit of supiriority... This allowed the magician to see her thick sunglasses, covering most of her face... "It is... Come on in sir.
We are happy to have you..." she said, as she chittered softly to the crows and the dispersed, except for one on her shoulder...
He tilts his head to her so the brim of his hat dips over his eyes briefly, "Thank you."
The fledgling ninja/witch pushed the wide double doors open to reveal the huge inner foyer, which was somehow buzzing with life, and at the same time, quiet as a mouse... She seemed to stop and breath in for a moment before she said, "Mum is upstairs, in the room labeled with a 3."
Arthur nods to her and moves away toward the stairs, having to tilt his hat up slightly to see in the extreme dark of the house.  Even this doesn't help him very much and so forces the magician to trail his narrow hand along the wall, counting the doors and trying to feel for the one he needed.
However, just as he found his way upstairs and started feeling along the darkness that the residence had gotten use to, a swarm of bats flew down and flittered over his face, begining to swarm around him in a much more agressive way then the crows had... The girl hopped up to the second floor, however, and said, "Hold on, guys and girls... He's not here to be a challenger."
"Then who is he..." a low voice asks as something falls to the floor nearby with barely a sound.  The bats flutter confusedly around Arthur as he holds his arms up to shield his face.
The female raised her arms and shooed the bats from him as she said, "He wants to talk to mother... About being an apprentice witch..."
Arthur once again straightens and dusts himself off, fuming now, "Are there any other 'surprises I should know about?!" he shouts angrily as the voice hums softly before making a short hissing noise.  The bats scatter and disappear immediately, save for one golbat who flutters up to a patch of deep shadow and perches on it, "Only those that Violet has in store for you..."
"And mother's are the absoloute worst..." the female giggled, as she brought her thin hand up to her scarf to pull it down, revealing her thin, pale lips... "You want me to go ahead and warn her off...?"
"We probably should.  There's no telling what she would do otherwise." the shadowy voice replies, sounding almost like it was grinning.
"Geez what a sourpuss... Can't take a few jokes..." smirked the young woman, as she turned and entered the third room. Quiet voices could be heard for a few moments before the door opened again, and the girl peeked her head out... "C'mon in. She's told her ghosts to settle down..."
Arthur strides forward, casting a glance up at where he thought the voice was coming from.  He caught only the briefest glimpses of something purple and what looked like a face before it and the golbat were gone.  The blue magician shakes it off as best he can and trots down the hallway, entering the room where the witch supposedly was.
Which seemed to be a study, of some sort. Titleless books lined the bookshelves, and everything else seemed to be shabby, but perfectly organised... The girl stood near one of the wide windows, as there seemed to be another woman sitting behind the desk. Her long cloak, bright red shash about her middle, and her wide brimmed hat all gave her identity as the leader of this gym away immidatly. At the moment, she was turned, speaking to a rather elderly looking, almost crimson ampharos... "...well, you've said before you don't want us to have you come back immidatly, right? So I'll need someone to help guide me when your gone...
"I suppose not..." the ampharos replies as his tail light slowly sways behind him.  The shifting shadows served to disorient the magician as he tries to walk toward the witch, however, whether this was intentional or not wasn't clear.
"You act as if I'm going to force you on your mother, Scar. Don't worry. We'll find a female for you to mate... But we should do it fast, considering your age..." she took her pokemon's weathered paw and gently caressed it before she said, "Yes? What is it you want?"
"Bah..." Arthur mutters softly, stopping for a moment to steady his swaying and shifting world.  He tilts his head down so his hat covers his eyes, trying to block out the majority of the ampharos' dancing light as he replies, "I want to learn from you."
"Learn from me? Virella has told me that much..." she finally turned her chair towards him, revealing her milky white eyes as she reached out and passed her hand over her desk once, seemingly making sure she'd left nothing on it, and showing her distrustful nature... "You need to be more specific, dearie... You can go rest now, if you'd like." she said, as she released her ampharos's hand...
The ampharos moves slowly away, soon disappearing behind a shelf of books to lay down.  Arthur lifts his head again now that the light was both stationary and reduced to a dim glow, "Specific... Fine." he says, "I want to learn 'real' magic.  I've mastered my stage magic craft but yearn for more.  Perhaps to make my shows more interesting... who knows." he adds, sounding as though he were grinning again but again no one being able to see it.
"Hm... Using witchcraft for profit is strictly forbidden. The salem girls were turned in by their own landlord for doing such a thing..." Violet said, as she shook her head softly at him... "So... I'm not exactly sure I should teach you more..."
"Hmph.  I said 'who knows'..." he mutters, crossing his arms over his chest, "Above all, this is a pursuit of knowledge.  I'm curious, you could say..."
"And do you know anything of witchcraft?" Violet asked, as she turned to a specially made typewriter and began to continue the task she had had before; writing a letter to her friend Lynzee. Every letter printed came out with brail underneath it, so Violet could check her letter once it was finished
"Only that it can do things stage magic dreams it could..." he shakes his head, "So far I've found few credible sources of information on witchcraft, so no, you'd have a clean slate with me...."
Violet stopped writing for a moment, humming quietly as she lifted her hand and waggled a finger, calling a large, heavy book over to her, which it did eagerly, as though it were a dog. It scrambled over to her and set in her lap. She opened it, and began to run her fingers over it, muttering, "Yes... The rate for newbies has been accelertaing greatly over the years..." she sighed softly, "Witchcrafting is such a lost art..."
"That it is.  Like many of the mystic and occult practices.  So few are left who truely know them...  It makes those who do all the more unique."  He keeps his arms crossed over his chest, forcing his cloak to remain open and revealing the lithe figure beneath it.
Virella was staring at him now through her large thick glasses, almost seeming to be admiring him as she hummed softly, and stroked her murkrow. Violet sighed quietly and said, "Becoming a witch isn't an overnight thing. Depending on who you are, it could take years to learn. Are you still prepared?"
"I am prepared to study as long as needed to learn." he replies, lifting his head up a bit more to seem prouder, "I knew coming here it wouldn't be an immediate thing."
"It's also a road filled with hardship. People believe it is simply learning incantations and saying them. But no. It is much much more akin to becoming a priest..." she lifted her head and sighed slightly... "Are you ready to become a priest, Mister Arthur? It is Mister, correct?"
"Yes...  Mr. Arthur Mendini." he replies, nodding for good measure despite the witch before him being unable to see the motion.
"Mm, excuse me for not being sure. Forgive me if this offends you, but you have a rather effeminent voice..." The blind witch said, as Virella scoffed softly, "Mum..." she muttered, shaking her head, as Violet stood, "Allright then, Mr. Mendini. If you are ready and willing, I can start you down on the path. Do you have anyone back home that you need to contact? Your going to be here for awhile..."
He tilts his head back down at Violet's comment to hide his face, clearing his throat softly before answering her question, "Anyone I would need to warn has come with me." he replies, likely referring to the three capture devices just barely visible on his waist, "I'm fully prepared to start at any time."
"Allright then. You will. Virella, would you mind leading him to a guest room? He'll need a tour of the house as w-"
"Dammit!" Virella gasped, as she seemed to notice the softly ticking clock on the wall... Violet jumped softly as she said, "Whats wrong?" The ninja/witch crossbreed was already heading towards the door to grab her things as she called, "I'm late for school! AGAIN!" And with that, she had dissapeared out of the room...
